the key to successful gardening is excellent soil. without it, you won’t grow much. count equipment like compost, manure, peat moss, grass clippings and such, then turn the soil and work the organic materials in to at least 15 inches down. if you like, you can take a soil sample to your local ag extension and they will test it and tell you just so what you need. excellent luck!! gardening is awesome and addictive and keeps me sane. i’m not sure about what flowere advice to give you for your part of the country. but here’s a hint- most garden centers sell the plants that do the best in a given locale. even if you don’t buy the plants, you have an thought.
place grass there and buy a pot plant
Well….i stated a garden last spring, the one thing that i learned is to make sure you plant your bulbs right side up. I recommend planting elephant ears….they get very huge and sweet…they come in lovely shades of green and purple, they multiply each year. I planted mine @ the fence line beside my house, hides the hideous fence and gives it some color. Also, after talking to my grandmother, I chose to fill my flower bed with petunias. They are cheap and the last all summer, and they can handle sun and heat well. (I live in mississippi) I have another plant that I LOVE….I can send you some bulbs of it after I remember the name. Well I hope this helps. Let me know of anything else you learn….my send by e-mail is iamnotliz@yahoo.com
Initiation with Ivy. I establish that Ivy could defy my non-green thumb! Also, morning glories are simple. If you want a splash of back yard color, buy several packets of wildflower seeds. Throw them out there and fill up them.It won’t take and you’ve got color. My friends in Santa Barbara did that and talking about a fantastic backyard!
